Italians
Italians ancestors ruled a powerful empire from the city of Rome. They come from many backgrounds; however, most are descendants of ancient Romans who ruled the region long ago. Each region in Italy have their own customs, traditions and dialects of Italian. We can find large Italian populations in the United States, Canada, Argentina and Brazil.
Italian families are know to be close-knit where children, parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins spend a lot of time together and say that family is "like a fortress." The reason way they have strong family relationships is because of past history such as war and corruption, the only person they could relay on was they family members where they protected themselves and made sure that everyone was fed, clothed and had jobs. Most families are large, but live in small houses and have little money. There are many gatherings that are organized which are fun events with lots of food, wine and conversation. Sunday's are popular times to get together to cook huge meals because it is symbolize as a day for family. Also, other important family events are religious ceremonies such as baptisms, first communions and confirmations that take place as parades. Lastly, wedding celebration are very big and guests offers their tanti auguri (best wishes) to the couple and throw rice or confetti to them.
Sports and pastimes
As for sports, they love soccer (calcio) where every game is an excuse for street parties and flag-waving. They are so soccermania that Italian children start to learn to play soccer very young and get a lot of opportunities to evolve since there are teams for neighborhood, provincial and federal. Also, they love the great outdoors where they do rock climbing, hiking and skiing in the Alps and Apennines. During the summer, the love swimmming in the lakes and oceans, to do bicycle and watch car races. furthermore, they love to play card games and morra where you only use your hands.
